Cassius Stormhail

• Biography

  Cassius grew up on the streets of a port city know as Travenact (trave-en-oct) as a gutter rat. Most days it was pretty awful. Depending on the season the cobble stones were either so cold that his feet damn near froze or so hot that a couple of the other street urchins actually got some pretty nasty burns on the bottom of their feet. The city guard weren't too kind either. They treated the children like they were even worse vermin than rats, beating them for the fun of it and trying to take what few coppers they could scrape together. One day Cassius snuck aboard a merchant vessel that had just docked in the harbor. He made his way to the cargo hold and started unscrewing the lids of the boxes in the hopes of finding something to fence. Much to his surprise, he opened one of the boxes to find a magnificent silver sword, looking like it was carved from pure Platinum. Cassius grabbed the sword, and heard a voice in his mind. "You seem interesting. I'll be watching you with great interest." Needless to say, this wasn't exactly what he'd been expecting. Scared out of his wits Cassius turned tail and ran as fast as he could away from the sword. Nothing was quite the same after that encounter. He started to feel... a power of some sort. It was like he grew a new muscle, or unlocked a new talent that was yearning to be used. It wasn't long after that he discovered he could do magic. It was only simple cantrips at first, but that was more than enough to blow his young mind. Eventually, Cassius came to the realization that with this new power, he actually stood a chance of standing up to the guards. The next couple years saw a significant drop in the number of street rat bodies found beaten to death. Cassius' little resistance was working, and growing stronger. His magical capabilities grew with every engagement, every hit and run or rescue, until finally he heard a call. It was like an instinct he didn't know he had, like he was being compelled to go to a place that was both alien and yet so familiar. Cassius was lead to an old delapidated church, situated in a section of town that had been ravaged by plague a couple years back. The roof had collapsed from lack of repair, and the doors hung open, the lock long since broken. Cassius entered the church and walked into the chapel. It was then that he saw him, standing at the end of the hall where a pastor might've been years before. He looked to be a Dragonborn with silver scales, wearing plate armor, and a crimson cape. He had a sword at his hip similar to the one that had spoken to Cassius. "Welcome Cassius. I've watched you for quite some time." He seemed to smile as he said it. "I am the Platinum Dragon" he continued, "I am Bahamut! I have an offer for you that I think you will like. It is an offer of freedom from the oppressive squaler of your current life. It is an offer of power, the power to choose your own path and set free your fellows from this sespool of a city." Cassius nodded, expressing his willingness to hear him out. Bahamut smiled again, apparently pleased by his response.
  
  "The terms are thus: serve me faithfully and loyally, and adhere to the tenants of my faith, and you will have the power to bring Justice to the wicked, and protect the ones you love."
  
  Cassius quickly agreed to this, and knelt before the Draconic god. Bahamut then drew his sword and touched it to each of Cassius' shoulders.
  
  "From this day forth, you are my holy warrior, my Knight of silver scale." As he spoke, a white light surrounded Cassius. When it vanished, he was adorned in full plate armor, with a falchion on his hip and a kite shield in his hand.
  
  "Rise, Sir Cassius!"
  
  As Cassius stood, he felt good, better than he had in all his life in fact. He smiled at his new patron, and thanked his graciously.
  
  It has been several years since that fateful encounter, and every day since, Cassius has held up his end of the deal. He has been many places, brought Justice to dozens of criminals, and beat back the monstrosities that would seek to make prey of the innocent. Cassius' adventures continue to this day. What lies ahead for him, only time can tell
